Fast Flow Fourties Style

The next month is going to be crazy paced sewing. I am making my sister's wedding dress (more on that later) along with my dress.

I decided to use my plan b fabric from my Regency gown. It is a lovely orangey rust color, in a fairly heavy charmeuse. It sews like butter, without the puckering issues of lighter weight fabric. My choice is a vintage Butteric pattern from the 40's, tweaked with a modern use of lace. I used brown lace, just to be a little different.

I had intended to use modern shape wear, only to discover I still looked fat. Smoothing and shaping aren't the same thing. So I strapped on one of my Victorian corsets to get some actual waist reduction. And I discovered I'd bought too small of a pattern (size 22 Butterick? Off your chart? You've got to be kidding. Hence another reason for the corset) I went with the biggest one, size 12.

Construction went fast. Muslin on Saturday morning, to nearly wearable on Sunday. Only real change I made was to raise the back to hide the corset.

Here is the near finished dress, prior to zipper being set. 5 inches of reduction. I think the muslin stretched out a bit, as the side boob issue wasn't showing up. It was actually too loose. Note to self: stay stitch the muslin next time.

I'd still like to loose 10 lbs by the wedding, to avoid the side boob fat look. Good excuse.
