Fabric Choices

I have given up on finding a subtly variegated taffeta to match my 1881 original. The best I can do I find a similar color in a similar weight taffeta.

I have decided to share my fabric options with you. Unfortunately Pure Silks, while having an amazing selection and excellent prices, does not do swatches. So I'd better be sure when I order a yard that I am getting anything near what I want.

The satin is easy, as long as it harmonious with main silk. There is something about a satin in a bright color, especially in an electric blue. And I can go bright as the original.

1. Cream and gold shot silk taffeta. No good shot of the selvage or raw edge, so I can't make out the base colors.

2. Chazel (?)  Gold Silk taffeta. Appears to be a beigie cream color that is shot. None of the pictures include selvages or raw edges, so I can't be sure if it is shot.

3. Beigeish Cream Silk Taffeta. You can see in the pictures a gold shot with white (?) raw redges. On my monitor it is a little more gold than I'd like, but at least I have an idea of the raw edges.

Never realized how much seeing the raw and selvage edge matters when buying taffeta until now. At least when it's shot taffeta.

The original was shot with brown AND white. which I've never seen in a modern fabric.

The more you know about the original, the harder it can be to recreate.

Edit: OOOHHH, they do do swatches! Just through a different mechanism, and 2 at a time.
