Bodice Bedlam

Ha. So fitting a pattern off your dress form is easy? Ha and more Ha. Linebacker Sally strikes again.

So here are the nice pretty pattern peices off my dress form. Nothing crazy right?

After many rounds of muslin fittings, here is how much the bodice front shifted. Brown is my fashion fabric, white is the muslin pattern off my dress form.Linebacker shoulders vs my petit sloping shoulders. Should take care of my issue right?

Here is how the cut pattern looks on me. Like crap. The front is all wonky, and the back has major gaposis on the armscye, indicating that the bodice front strap should come in some more. New peices need to be cut. This is why I bought plenty of fabric.

So I muslin a new front pattern up, shifting the bodic strap inward by another inch. Yes, we're up to 2 inch of strap movement H&R ere! This is why I can't keep a bra strap on to save my life. I also rejigger the center front, widening the panel a bit on the bottom a bit. No pics of the new muslin though.

And it fits! Here is the lined version, and it fits about perfectly. Need to run a stay stich along the lining to keep it from peeking, but it came out well.

The gaposis in the back is still there (yes, the shoulders could come in MORE!) but am willing to live with it. A few stress wrinkles in the back indicating the waist isn't cut right, but those will go away once I cut the waist.

Holy crap. I remember now why I shyaway from patterning off of Sally. Her shoulders are insane.

And just as I was taking the back shots, a certain bug up past bedtime came into my sewing room room and insisted "do me too!"
